The Mother Lode Orange Shirt Day Committee invites community members to several events this September to honor, and respect every child who didn’t come home, every survivor of the Native Residential Schools.
We invite you to leave a reflection or tie a ribbon on the the Memory Tree in front of the Red Church, Downtown Sonora between 9/1-9/30.
On Wednesday, September 30th we will meet in front of the Memory Tree and have a Remembrance Walk down Washington Street and up the other side starting at 6:00 PM. We will end the walk at Courthouse Park for a Healing Drum Circle. All our invited to attend to hear songs and drumming to remember the victims and survivors.
*It is important to note that the Episcopal Church has made a deliberate path of archival research and truth-telling before a sweeping national apology in regards to these residential schools. St. James Episcopal Church of Sonora has been a partner in the Mother Lode Orange Shirt Day Committee and healing in our community.
