SIR, Inc. Branch 152 will hold its May 2026 meeting in the Snowflake Lodge at the Blue Lake Springs Homeowners Association, located at 335 Blue Lake Springs Dr., Arnold, CA. Our May 19th meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. and includes a social hour and lunch, followed by a special presentation.
Our guest speaker for May 19th will be Doug Modlin.
Doug Modlin holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science from Stanford University. Following 25 years in engineering leadership roles at Silicon Valley high-tech companies, he spent the final 15 years of his career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he retired as Chief Electronics Engineer. In retirement, he has remained active in Calaveras County as an advocate for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education and advises early-stage high-tech companies on product development and commercialization strategy.
He is a co-founder of the Calaveras County Office of Education STEAM Advisory Council, the Albert Michelson Science Fair Awards, the Albert Michelson Exhibit at the Angels Camp Museum, and the Michelson STEAM Scholarship—initiatives focused on bringing hands-on science, real-world inspiration, and direct financial support to local students. He has served as a science fair judge at the county and state levels for over 15 years, is a member of the University of the Pacific Bioengineering Industrial Advisory Board and is listed as an inventor on over 45 issued U.S. patents—reflecting a lifelong commitment to innovation, education, and community impact.
Mr. Modlin plans to speak about Albert Michelson and how Michelson inspired his STEAM Advocacy work in Calaveras County.
