COLUMBIA COLLEGE COMMUNITY CHORUS “SOUNDS OF THE SEASON” CONCERT with Orchestra
The Columbia College Community Chorus with orchestra is proud to present its annual Sounds of the Season concert with three performances in the Sonora Opera Hall December 6 at 7:30 pm, and December 7 and 8 at 3:00 pm.
Dr. Daryl Hollinger, Conductor
Mark Seiver, Accompanist
Hear the Columbia College Community Chorus in concert featuring the old, the new, and the familiar. The concert opens with the beautiful O Magnum Mysterium, (O Great Mystery), a haunting setting of a Gregorian chant for a cappella chorus by Morten Lauridsen. The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came, by Dr. Daryl Hollinger, recounts Gabriel’s visit to Mary, the blessed mother, with her recurring theme foreshadowing the future life and death of the baby Jesus. Giacomo Puccini, primarily known for his operas, wrote Gloria for chorus and orchestra, a lively departure from traditional Gloria settings. The second half of the concert brings traditional Christmas carols with unusual rhythms, harmonies, and styles, plus Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus and the popular audience sing-along.
Tickets: $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Age 18 and under FREE (must reserve seat).
