A recent report by the International Energy Agency states that “Since 2010, the average amount of minerals needed for a new unit of power generation has increased by 50% as the share of renewables has risen;” shifting from a fuels-intensive to a material intensive energy system. All to bring wind and solar up to a 10% share of the world’s electricity and with no plans to expand the mining of these critical materials.
