Something To Think About Archive

Writer and motivation speaker Glenn Van Ekeren notes that “A good listener is not only popular everywhere, but after a while he knows something.”

Gavin Newsom and his fellow Democrats are attempting to thwart the will of the people when it comes to new taxes including those disguised as regulatory fees by trying to remove the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act from next year’s ballot. This ballot measure would require a majority of voters to approve taxes adopted by the Legislature and require that tax dollars levied for a specific purpose are spent only on that specific project or program. It’s another case of “We’re the government, don’t tell us how to spend your money.”

Elizabeth Dole notes that “When you’re in your nineties and looking back, it’s not going to be how much money you made or how many awards you’ve won. It’s really, what did you stand for. Did you make a positive difference for people?”

The reprehensible attack on Israel by Iran-supported Hamas and their subsequent horrific treatment of their captives is made even worse by the condemnation of Israel by the left-wing “Squad” in Congress and Senator Bernie Sanders who have the gall to say, in essence, that the Israelis brought this upon themselves. We’re surprised that these same idiots haven’t claimed that it’s Ukraine’s fault that Russia invaded them or that China has every right to take over Tawain, an island that China has never had sovereignty over.

Winston Churchill believed that “Life can either be accepted or changed. If it is not accepted, it must be changed. If it cannot be changed, it must be accepted.”

Oscar Wilde once observed that “Anyone can sympathize with the sufferings of a friend, but it requires a very fine nature to sympathize with a friend’s success.”

In the ‘70s, Former President Jimmy Carter once noted that “Whatever starts in California has an inclination to spread.” Given the proclivity of Sacramento to pass more and more bone-headed laws and all the chaos in our major cities, we’re not so sure that’s a good thing anymore.

According to General Norman Schwarzkopf, “Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy.”

Ace Fighter Pilot Eddie Rickenbacker claimed that “Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you’re scared.”
