Supervisors O.K. Sheriff’s Department Grant Proposal

Sonora, CA — The Board of Supervisors today authorized the Sheriff´s Department to apply for the 2007-2008 Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Grant.
According to Karen Bachtelle, Adult System of Care Program Manager for Kings View, the county has untilized grant funds from this program in the past with great success.
In a discussion with Chairperson Liz Bass, Bachtelle pointed out that there exists a far greater degree of mental illness in rural penal institutions than in urban penal institutions.
According to Acting County Administrator Craig Pedro the grant would total $691,000 with a matching grant of $173,000.
