Agencies Estimate It Cost $4.13 Million To Prosecute Peterson

Sponsored by:

It cost taxpayers more than $4 million to put Scott Peterson behind bars.

The agencies involved in the Peterson case say the final tab of the investigation and trial came to $4.13 million Modesto police spent the most money.

Costs to the department added up to more than $1 million, with most of that coming in a fruitless search for Laci Peterson.

The cost of the Peterson case surpassed some other high-profile trials.

The investigation and prosecution of Richard Allen Davis, the killer of 12-year-old Polly Klass in 1993, was estimated to cost about $2.5 million dollars.
