Lowest-Paid Workers At UC Stage One-Day Strike

University of California custodians, cafeteria workers and bus drivers went on strike Thursday.
They say that administrators are giving their lowest-paid workers the short end of the stick and they want more pay. Union officials say service workers are striking at all nine U-C campuses as well as its five medical centers and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. U-C officials say campuses had drawn up contingency plans to deal with the strike and were experiencing minimal disruptions in services.
