Judge Seals Defense Request For New Peterson Trial
The judge in the Scott Peterson case has sealed a defense motion requesting a new trial for the convicted murderer.
Lawyers for Peterson filed the 122-page request Friday. Judge Alfred Delucchi says the public won´t be allowed to see it until March Ninth, after the prosecution files its response. Delucchi also set a March 16th sentencing date for Peterson. A jury recommended death, but the judge must formally impose a sentence.
Delucchi also said he had received more than 150 letters about the trial. He ordered those sealed as well, saying he was reluctant to potentially “inflame the public.”
Scott Peterson was convicted in November of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson.
