Supervisors Endorse More Teeth In Code Penalties
Revisions of penalties for violators of the county´s building code have been approved by Tuolumne Supervisors.
5th District Supervisor Dick Pland says the new rules put more teeth in the code while simultaneously making it easier on homeowners to do small jobs, such as replacing a bath tub or patching a roof, without first having to acquire a permit from the county.
“The target isn´t homeowners who are doing little jobs.”
Pland says the Board began tackling the revisions after receiving numerous complaints from staff and local residents about violators. In the past, violators of the building code have been let off without a fine if they corrected the problem or acquired the proper paperwork before a final hearing date.
