CDF Officials Suspect Arson In Three Weekend Fires
Sonora, CA — Officials with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection believe three weekend fires were caused by arson.
Spokesman Craig Hart says the first blaze occurred at 1:15 Saturday morning on Covington Mine Road near Sawmill Flat.
He says what appears to be an intentionally set fire did about $3,000 in damage to a Ford van.
Another fire consumed about a half acre of grass on highway 4 about a mile east of Copperopolis at about 12:30 Saturday afternoon.
The third suspicious blaze happened at 8:30 Saturday night in the Rolleri Ranch area near Melones Reservoir. Hart says that fire burned about 1 acre of grass valued at $200.
Anyone who may have information about the fires is asked to call Chief Richard Imlach of the CDF office in Sonora.
