Merced, CA — The faculty is in place, student housing is ready, and the welcome mat is out.
Those are the words from the chancellor of UC Merced as the state´s newest University of California campus opens its door.
Nearly 5,000 people attended Monday´s opening ceremony. They include about a thousand students and 60 faculty members who will start classes today.
UC Merced expects to add about 800 students a year, reaching a maximum of 25,000 students by 2035.
