Mariposa County, CA – Traffic is moving freely on Highway 140 in Mariposa County following weeks of repair due to multiple rockslides earlier last month.
Caltrans reported that the highway officially reopened on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 3 p.m. As we reported here, the roadway was initially closed on Monday, April 13, 2026, between Bear Creek Bridge (Briceburg) and Cedar Lodge (Incline) after multiple rockslides on Sunday (4/12/26) when a storm system passed through. Motorists were told to use Highway 120 and Highway 41 to access Yosemite National Park.
After that initial closure of the highway, crews worked to clear the boulders and rocks. Caltrans then advised that slope work was required before it could be fully reopened. During that time, the roadway opened to one-way traffic several times but closed again this week on Wednesday (4/29/26) for debris removal, as reported here. Caltrans had stated that its goal was to reopen the highway before the weekend.
