Sacramento, CA — A mailer sent by Alexandra Duarte’s campaign to likely voters in California Senate District 4 is drawing a negative reaction from the California Republican Party.
The ad in support of the Republican Duarte shows her firing a gun, and there is also a picture of the incumbent Republican, Marie Alvarado-Gil.
The California GOP put out a statement on social media, noting, “The California Republican Party opposes this mailer from Alexandra Duarte’s campaign, especially its troubling imagery implying violence against Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil.”
It goes on to state, “Amid recent assassination attempts against President Trump and increased violence targeting elected officials, it’s important for all campaigns, whether Republican or Democrat, to work towards calming our political climate and encouraging respectful dialogue.”
It has been a contentious race, as the top two vote-getters in the June primary, regardless of party, will move on to the November General Election. There are two Republicans running (Duarte and Alvarado-Gil), along with Democrat Jaron Brandon. Senate District 4 covers much of the Mother Lode region and stretches into the Central Valley.
In other recent mailers, Duarte touts herself as a strong President Trump-supporting Republican and criticizes Alvarado-Gil for her time previously as a member of the Democratic Party.
