Update: Fire In Wallace, Evacuations

Update at 7:27 p.m.: Calaveras County Sheriff’s officials report that they have issued mandatory evacuations for Genasys Zone, which is under a mandatory evacuation order:

Zone CCU-053 is under a level 3 evacuation order.

Zone CCU-052 is under a level 2 evacuation warning.

Fire crews will continue to work overnight on stopping the flames’ forward spread and then gaining some containment. What ignited this blaze is under investigation.

Update at 6:35 p.m.: Air and ground fire crews continue to work the Turkey Fire, a vegetation fire, near the south shore of Camanche Reservoir in the Wallace area of Calaveras County. The flames broke out near Turkey Hill Trail and Pattison Road near Camanche Road. CAL FIRE spokesperson Emily Kilgore updates that the blaze has grown from 20 to 50 acres in size with a moderate rate of spread. She added that structures are threatened. We’ll have an update as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.

Original post at 6:18 p.m.: Valley Springs, CA — Air and ground fire crews are battling a vegetation fire named the Turkey Fire near the south shore of Camanche Reservoir in the Wallace area of Calaveras County.

The flames broke out near Turkey Hill Trail and Pattison Road near Camanche Road. CAL FIRE spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that the blaze is 20 acres in size with a moderate rate of spread.
