City Sales Tax Goes To Voters

Sponsored by:

The Sonora City Council passed a resolution this week officially calling for the special election on a half-cent sales tax hike.

If passed, 60 percent of the tax money will go to the Sonora Police Department, 25 percent to the fire department, and 15 percent to City Public Works.

The election will be by mail-in ballot, and happens the last day of August.

Also at this week´s special council meeting, city officials began the process of selecting dates for a joint study session to look at possibly enacting a “Big-Box” retail store ordinance for the city of Sonora.

The city Planning Committee meets on April 12th to narrow down the date for the study session.
