Thunderstorms Possible Over Sierra Nevada Region

Sonora, CA — There is an elevated chance of thunderstorms with lightning over the next two days, according to the National Weather Service.

The odds increase the closer to the Sierra Crest.

Overall for the greater Sierra region, the National Weather Service says most areas have a 10-30% chance of thunderstorms on Monday and a 15-35% likelihood on Tuesday.

Specific to Monday, the anticipated time frame is noon – 8 pm. There will be a possibility of lightning, small hail, brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and possible new fire starts (from dry lightning).

If anyone sees lightning, the National Weather Service says it is important to stay away from trees or tall objects, avoid water, and take shelter indoors. Anyone seeing smoke should report it by calling 911.

There will also be an uptick in humidity over the next couple of days due to monsoonal moisture.
