Sonora, CA – A disputed all-way stop on Highway 49 in Sonora, Tuolumne County, has been completed.
Caltrans District 10 installed the new stop at the intersection of Shaws Flat Road this past weekend, designed to improve safety and reduce broadside collisions. As previously reported here, some Tuolumne County supervisors had reservations about the plans, criticizing state road officials for failing to notify them of the change.
At the intersection, motorists will find new solar-powered flashing beacons with “STOP AHEAD” signs, new pavement markings, and “ALL-WAY” plaques. Caltrans says the enhancements are “a proven measure to significantly reduce crash and injury rates at this intersection.”
