The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Mariposa County foothills, the lower Sierra Nevada and the central San Joaquin Valley, until 8 PM tonight.
The high temperatures today will range from 100 to 108 degrees.
Such hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses, especially anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.
There will be Major Heat Risk.
During this Extreme Heat Warning, try to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the direct sun, and be sure to check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
