Angels Camp, CA—Bret Harte quarterback Jeshua Wahlman and wide receiver Hensley Speyer connected for three touchdowns, helping the Bret Harte Bullfrogs improve to 1-0 on the season with a 21-7 victory against the Delhi Hawks on Friday Night in Delhi.
Wahlman and Speyer took little time to start scoring as they connected on the Bullfrogs’ opening possession of the season for a 51-yard touchdown strike. The Hawks would later score in the second quarter, tying the game 7-7 at halftime. Wahlman and Speyer would hook up again for a scoring play on the Bullfrogs’ first possession of the second half, this time on a 1-yard touchdown pass, giving Bret Harte a 14-7 lead. The duo’s final touchdown connection came with 5:19 left to play in the game, when Wahlman found Speyer on a fade route in the back of the end zone for their third touchdown of the night, capping off the scoring.
Bret Harte kicker Marcus Kelley was a perfect 3-3 on point-after-touchdown conversions and just missed a 52-yard field goal attempt to end the first half of play. Linebacker T.J. Bent, defensive lineman Toby Siegler, and defensive back Jack Brixey helped lead the way on defense as the Bullfrogs shut out the Hawks in the second half.
