Mariposa County, CA — The sheriff’s office in Mariposa County is providing some details about an investigation into human remains that were recovered in an area off Agua Fria Road.
They were located by some people who were out exploring that area. Sheriff’s office personnel were contacted, and they responded to recover the remains. The California Department of Justice has been helping with the investigation.
The sheriff’s office updates, “The remains were subsequently sent to the California Department of Justice for processing and assistance with identification. At this time, the identity of the individual has not been confirmed.”
An investigation remains ongoing. Once there is an identification, family members will be notified.
The sheriff’s office adds, “Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the need to protect its integrity, and out of compassion and respect for the individual and their family, no additional information will be released at this time. We understand a case like this may generate questions within our community. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while the identification process and investigation continue.”
The remains were located back on July 26.
