Anderson To Succeed Bass On City Council

Sponsored by:

Replacing councilwoman Liz Bass on the Sonora City Council will be Gary Anderson, current member of the Sonora Planning Commission.

At last night´s meeting downtown, Mayor David Sheppard originally nominated former councilman Jim Hildreth, but in a 2-to-3 vote, the majority of the council decided against approving Hildreth´s nomination.

Then, with the nomination of Gary Anderson, the council unanimously voted to approve.

Anderson said he was a bit shocked by the whole thing.

“I pretty much assumed it was going to be Jim Hildreth, primarilty because of his prior goernment experience. So what happened tonight is really amazing,” said Anderson.

And on her final night as a city councilwoman, Liz Bass reflected on her decade of service.

“It´s just been wonderful. I´ve learned more than I think that I´ve taught, and I´m a teacher,” Bass laughed Monday evening.

“The best thing for me, overall, was the new sidewalk where it connects Old Sonora and New Sonora to be Full Sonora,” Bass added.

Anderson will be sworn in as a city councilman next month.

Bass begins her term as a Tuolumne County District One Supervisor next month as well.
