Friday’s Jamestown Fatality Identified
The California Highway Patrol reports an accident turned into a fatality for a Jamestown transient on Friday night.
They´ve identified the victim as 48-year-old Mark S. Lenert.
The CHP says he was walking southbound across Highway 49 at Humbug Road in Jamestown.
54-year-old David Wildman was in his 2002 Chevy pickup northbound on Highway 49 when he hit the transient, who was reportedly not in a crosswalk.
The victim was also wearing dark clothing, making him difficult to see in the dark.
Investigators say evidence suggests the transient didn´t check for approaching traffic before entering the roadway.
He was taken to Tuolumne General Hospital where he died of his severe injuries.
