Measure I Voting Deadline Is Tonight.
Sonora voters have until 8 p.m. tonight to get their last-minute ballots turned into the Tuolumne County Elections office on North Washington Street.
The special mail-in election this past month asked Sonora voters to approve a half cent city sales tax increase.
The revenue from the additional half cent tax per dollar spent in the city would go to fund Sonora Police, Fire and Public Works departments.
Estimated revenue from the tax is projected to be around one point two million dollars a year. Measure I must pass with a two thirds majority
Results from the election should be tabulated shortly after the deadline of 8 tonight.
If it passes, the sales tax increase would go into effect January 1st.
