Budget Debate Likely to Start This Week

Debate over the state´s record deficit will likely begin this week in the Assembly and the Senate on various spending plans. Lawmakers are working against a June 15 deadline to pass a state budget, but that deadline has rarely been met in years past.
The Legislature is also working this week against a Friday deadline to pass bills out of the house they were authored in. Both the Assembly and Senate could take up measures to reform workers´ compensation, move the state´s primary election to June and strengthen state logging restrictions.
