State Suing Chico Dry Cleaners
Sponsored by:
California Attorney General Bill Lockyer is suing more than a half-dozen former dry cleaners accused of poisoning much of Chico´s water.
California officials say the state has spent more than $6 million testing, treating and cleaning water contaminated with a toxic cleaning substance known as PCE.
Decades have passed since many of the defendants have used PCE, a suspected human carcinogen. It was first detected in Chico´s water in 1988. The suit also names the city of Chico, whose sewers in the contaminated area are cracked and leaking.
