Storm hinders travel over Sierra
A fairly mild storm is producing some road controls today in the Sierra.
Forecasters say there will be more later today and tonight – and even more than that by midweek.
Chains or snow tires are required today over the Mount Rose summit south of Reno – and on California 88 from six and one-half miles east of Hams Station to Hams Station. Chains are mandatory from Hams Station to the junction with California 89.
The forecast calls for snow showers in the Sierra through tomorrow with a couple of inchesĀ“ accumulation at the higher elevation. Snow showers could reach the floors of western valleys overnight.
A stronger storm is expected Wednesday night into Thursday that could bring significant snow to the mountains.
The Desert Research Institute is doing its best to squeeze a few extra drops of moisture from the storm by turning on cloud-seeding generators in both the Tahoe Basin and the Carson-Walker watershed.
