Sonora Union High Centennial Celebration Kicks Off

Sponsored by:

Officials have kicked off the Centennial Celebration at Sonora Union High School. Students cheered for all the graduating classes at Friday morning´s school assembly. They also sang the school song and joked about the way some of their teachers looked when old photos of the came up on a large projection screen. It was all in fun, of course.

State Senator and alumnus Rico Oller was there to present a commendation to the school from the state legislature for reaching 100 years of excellence in education. Oller says coming back here is a “…flood of memories”. He graduated in 1976. The Republican now represents the 1st District, which includes Calaveras County, in the state senate.

Also at the Friday morning assembly, students past and present paid tribute to the school´s rich heritage. Photos from throughout Sonora High´s past were shown on a large screen before Oller spoke to the crowd and presented the commendation.
