Humboldt County Tree Sitters Arrested
Three protesters have been arrested on land owned by Pacific Lumber in Humboldt County. The three are accused of trying to block workers from climbing trees to pull tree-sitters down.
Professional climbers are making their way up the redwoods. Their goal is to bring down 18 tree-sitters protesting Pacific Lumber´s logging practices. A judge last week ordered the protesters to come down. They have refused.
The activists claim Pacific´s aggressive timber harvesting practices have packed riverbeds with silt, raising flood levels to new heights and harming residents. Pacific Lumber claims it has improved its logging practices. It says the activists´ claims of environmental damage are without scientific basis.
