A rapist and a child molester are poised to become the first graduates of a program set up to treat and release sex offenders. The program at Atascadero State Hospital is for sexually violent predators who have already served prison time.
44-year-old Brian DeVries was convicted of molesting nine young boys. 32-year-old Cary Verse was convicted of sexually assaulting two teen boys and a homeless man. Both men have advanced to the final phase of treatment at Atascadero State Hospital.
Both have petitioned the courts for placement in a community release treatment program.
