Murphys Homecoming A “Hot” Time

Sponsored by:

Calaveras County residents and visitors braved the scorching heat to attend Murphys Homecoming Sunday.

Families lined Main Street for the parade and then enjoyed fun and games in the park. Senior citizens from the Murphys, Vallecito and Douglas Flat communities enjoyed a free lunch served in the shade, and potential pitch-ers of all ages took turns dunking folks in the dunk tank.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Ron Klass, president of the Murphys Community Club, sponsor of the event. “It went very well.”

The Murphys Friends of the Library held two duck races in Murphys Creek. The winners of the children´s race were Diane Kelt, Paul Schuck, Fidel Avilia, Cynthia Kuntz, Monica Schuck, Sean Rooney, Kelsey Clark and Paige Gohr. Schuck and Rooney each had two of their ducks win.

The adult race winner was Kim Brauns. She won a weekend stay at a Forest Meadows condominium with golf and concert tickets to the Bear Valley Music Festival. Neal Amick´s duck earned him four rounds of golf at Greenhorn Creek; Greg Gohr took home a case of wine from Stevenot, Chatom and Black Sheep wineries; Shannon Jones won a watch from Murphys Silver Co. and Warren Jones got a gift certificate for lunch at the Historic Murphys Hotel to round out the top five finishers.
