The Boss Goes To Bat For Giants
Bruce Springsteen will play a sold-out Pac Bell Park tonight, drawing fans – and their money – to the Giant´s cash – strapped waterfront stadium. Any money coming in is welcome, the club´s director says.
The ballclub has a payroll of $81 million, and needs to pay $20 million each year to service its debt.
Giants officials won´t say how much they´re making, but marketing experts say the Springsteen show could bring in at least $500,000 over five days. The money would come from renting the ballpark, parking and concessions, and from a cut of Springsteen merchandising sales. Tonight´s show is the fourth sold-out event this year.
Tickets went for $75 a seat.
