Restrictions Tightened on Red Light Camera Companies

Companies that operate red light cameras will be banned from charging by the ticket under a bill signed Thursday by Governor Davis. The Red Light Camera Reform Bill addresses the public´s concern that red light camera programs have been motivated by profit.
The bill prohibits vendors from being paid based on the number of citations they issue and it gives local governments more control over red light camera systems.
The systems work by taking pictures of motorists who run red lights.
Davis said “The goal of the red light program is to increase safety at intersections, not raise revenues for private companies.”
