Highway 395 Update

Officials plan to escort cars through the Cannon Fire area of Highway 395, barring any new flare-ups this morning. Earlier plans to reopen the highway were scrapped after a new incident at about 5 a.m. yesterday.
Motorists have been forced to detour around a section of the highway through the Walker River canyon, about 30 miles east of Yosemite National Park. The 22,750-acre blaze continues to burn, but is 75 percent contained. The cost of fighting it is estimated at $5-million.
