The West Nile virus may have arrived in California. State health officials say preliminary lab tests show a woman has tested positive for the disease. Results of further tests won´t be known for another week. But experts are puzzled at how the woman could have contracted the disease locally. They say West Nile has yet to be found in any neighboring states. Health officials say the unidentified woman hadn´t traveled outside the region. The woman had a mild case of meningitis, which is associated with the virus, in early August and later recovered. While West Nile was expected to show up in the West, there have been no confirmed cases of humans contracting the disease west of the Rocky Mountains.
