West Point Victim Named

West Point, CA — We now know the name of the female victim involved in the West Point homicide. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has identified her as 37 year-old Jessica Susan Elder of West Point. They say Elder suffered a gunshot wound to her head, and was released from a Modesto area hospital yesterday. The Sheriff’s Office also say the man murdered in the incident, 45 year-old Norman Curtis Gresham III, was shot. Detectives hope to interview Elder today.

As for 31 year-old Gary F. McMahan, Sgt. Chris Hewitt says, “McMahan is still in custody at a Sacramento County Jail. He is still a person of interest in this case, but is still not being called a suspect. Detectives continue to speak with him, but right now he is facing the charges for the vehicle pursuit and the other felony warrant arrests.”

McMahan was taken into custody July 11th after a high-speed chase with police that started in Lodi and ended in Sacramento. (Click here for an earlier story on McMahan’s arrest)

Hewitt says detectives are also continuing to conduct dozens of interviews in the West Point area. He says to preserve the integrity of this investigation no further information regarding the case is being released at this time.
