Drop Off Drugs
Sonora, CA — If you have unused or expired medications you want to get rid of, head to Sonora. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is holding its “Drug Take Back” event. All you have to do is bring in the drugs and they will make sure the medicine is properly destroyed, no questions asked. Sheriff’s Officials say by doing that, your helping keep drugs out of the hands of children or those who might abuse or try to sell the medication. It also protects the environment from contamination as many people flush drugs down the toilet to get rid of them. The event runs until 2 pm today at the Junction Shopping center off Mono Way in Sonora.
The Sheriff’s Department has teamed up with the Yes Partnership to host the events. The YES Partnership is a community coalition working to prevent substance and child abuse in Tuolumne County.
The group gives these drug statistics:
- 70% of prescription drug abusers obtain drugs from a friend or
relative. - Teens abuse prescription drugs more than any other drugs except
marijuana or alcohol. - Teens mistakenly believe that prescription and over-the-counter
medications are safer than illegal drugs. - Teenagers say it is easier for them to get prescription medications than it is for them to buy beer.
