Stabbing Victim Recovering

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports that the victim in Wednesday’s stabbing incident at the jail is recovering well.

22-year-old Jacob Reynolds had only started serving with the Sheriff’s Office on January 15, and was in the S.O.’s training program. He suffered lacerations to his face when he was attacked with a weapon by 30-year-old inmate Juan Valdez. The inmate was tased and taken into custody. Valdez had a weapon that had been constructed in the jail, and it contained a razor blade.

Sgt. Scott Johnson of the Sheriff’s Office notes that Reynolds was treated for lacerations to his face at Sonora Regional Medical Center, and he has since been released from medical care. It is not immediately known how soon Reynolds will return to duty.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Valdez was waiting sentencing to state prison related to a robbery and kidnapping incident dating back to last October. He had pleaded guilty. Click here to read an earlier story about the unfortunate attack.
