Sheriff’s Office Investigating Suspicious Death

Sonora, CA — A man was found dead yesterday near the railroad tracks on Tuolumne Road, behind the Junction Shopping Center.
Detectives with the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office have not been able to positively identify the victim. A forensic autopsy has been scheduled to investigate the cause of death.
“It is a suspicious death given where the body was located, and the body did have some trauma,” says Sgt. Scott Johnson of the Sheriff’s Office. “So, the autopsy will tell us what that trauma was caused by, and hopefully give us a cause of death, so we can go from there.”
The body was first spotted by a citizen, shortly before noon.
