Sacramento, CA — Governor Jerry Brown and Democratic leaders will introduce legislation today designed to help California get through the fourth year of the ongoing drought.
The Governor’s Office reports that $870 million has been pledged by the state since last February to help secure emergency drinking water supplies, increase water recycling programs, and help communities hardest hit. The Governor’s Office is not commenting at this time regarding how much his new proposed legislation will cost, but the LA Times reports that it is expected to be around $1-billion.
On hand for the unveiling, scheduled for 10:30am at the State Capitol, will be Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and Senate Democratic leader Kevin de Leon. The Governor’s Office is currently calling for all California residents to reduce water consumption by 20%.
