New Chief Probation Officer

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA– Calaveras County has filled its Chief Probation Officer position. The job has been vacant since April of last year when long time Chief Teri Hall retired. Calaveras County’s Superior Court judges and the Board of Supervisors have hired Sam Leach.

He says, “I’m truly excited! It is an amazing opportunity. I have a lot of respect for the Calaveras County Probation Department. It’s a beautiful area and I love the community.”

Leach comes from Sutter County where he has been the Supervising Probation Officer since 2005. His experience also includes a consulting business. In that role, he has assisted probation departments statewide with the implementation of Evidence Based Practices and implementation of the AB109 Realignment.

Leach says his top priority “is to begin to develop a more community based approach that also asks for help from the community so that it is a much more open and communicative approach to probation.”

Lech has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from National University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino.

Leach’s first day on the job will be June 2nd.  His annual salary will be more than $111,000.
