Yosemite Monitoring Lightning Caused Fires

Yosemite, CA — Yosemite National Park officials are keeping an eye on nine fires that were recently started by lightning strikes.

Thunderstorms passed through Yosemite starting on July 1st and the weather remained active through July 11. Most of the growth of the fires was tempered due to accompanying rain. Over an inch of precipitation fell at some of the higher elevations. The fires in the park are less than an acre in size, and many are only single tree strikes. Two of the fires are in Tuolumne County and seven are in Mariposa County. They range in elevation from 7,200 ft. to 9,000 ft.
