Placerville, CA – Although he had previously pleaded not guilty, the man who started the massive 2014 King Fire on Friday admitted his guilt in court.
Wayne Allen Huntsman, 39, pleaded guilty to three counts of felony arson for which El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Daniel Proud sentenced him to 20 years in prison, also ordering that he pay $60 million in restitution.
As previously reported here, the King Fire was set in steep terrain near the Pollock Pines community. It burned 12 homes, 68 other structures and more than 150 square miles of land, requiring 300 firefighters and personnel about a month to control.
