Ebbetts Pass Re-opens; Not Yet For Sonora Pass
Sonora, CA — Caltrans officials say their Monday road report on the status of the Mother Lode mountain passes recalls Meatloaf’s classic rock tune: “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.”
A rapid cool down of temperatures and tandem bout of wet weather caused Caltrans to close newly opened mountain passes for the weekend. Monday morning at 9:30 crews re-opened Highway 88 Monitor Pass. At 11, they swung back the gates once more to allow motorists through Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass.
As far as Highway 108 Sonora Pass goes, Caltrans District 10 spokesperson Skip Allum shares, “[Crews] have been working on that — but we expect some more weather that has been forecasted to arrive early-to-midweek — so the crews are hoping to re-open that toward the end of the week.”
Highway 120 Tioga Pass, for which maintenance operations are managed by Yosemite National Park, was reported on Monday morning as open.
