Calaveras Officials Wary That Weather Has Tree-Toppling Potential
San Andreas, CA — Calaveras Butte Fire recovery officials are sending a warning to residents living or traveling in and near the burn scar area — or by bug-killed trees — ahead of a big anticipated weather change in the wings.
The National Weather Service is predicting stormy weather beginning late Thursday into Friday and then again late Saturday into Sunday. According to Calaveras County spokesperson Sharon Torrence, although the amount of rain is not expected to be significant in the county, wind and related damage from these storms is a concern.
Ahead of the storms, Torrence emphasizes that the public should take care as dead trees from the wildfire not yet taken down — and the rising numbers of bug-killed trees around the county that remain to be addressed — are more susceptible to wind toppling or damage.
