Three Injured In HWY 26 Rollover Crash Near Mokelumne Hill
Mokelumne Hill, CA – A rollover crash on Highway 26 in the Mokelumne Hill area of Calaveras County yesterday injured a child, and a woman was flown from the scene.
The two-vehicle collision involving major injuries happened around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, west of Paloma Road. San Andreas Unit CHP reports that a 2010 Toyota Prius driven by 32-year-old Karashma Hussaini of Fremont was westbound on the highway. From the east, 40-year-old Stacy Odonnell of Valley Springs was behind the wheel of a 2018 Chevy Trax SUV. Inside the sedan were three passengers: 40-year-old Pawasja Dastagiezad of Union City, a 9-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old, whose gender was not given, both from Freemont.
For an unknown reason, Hussaini allowed the vehicle to steer into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with the SUV, and overturning on its side. Both vehicles ended up on the south shoulder of the roadway.
Calaveras Consolidated Firefighters also responded and assisted with the injured. Hussaini suffered major injuries and was flown from the scene to Memorial Hospital in Modesto. Dastagiezad sustained moderate injuries, and the girl had minor injuries. They, along with the other uninjured child, were taken by ground ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center.
This collision is still under investigation, but alcohol or drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
