Mid-October Events
There are many autumn events planned for the weekend of October 19th, and 20th. First, today from 5 to 8 pm in downtown Sonora is Ladies Night Out. The event is hosted by Adventist Health Sonora as its annual breast cancer awareness event. More than 30 downtown businesses will be staying open late, and many are offering Ladies Night Out promotions. There will also be live music in Coffill Park by the Lucky CuZn Brass Band, a Caricature artist and photobooth, refreshments at the Opera Hall, free chair massages at the Sonora Chamber of Commerce and more.
Brewfest is this weekend at the Motherlode fairgrounds. The gates open at 11:30 am with craft beer and spirits, great food, artisan vendors and live music for those 21 and older.
Railtown 1897 is offering Haunted “Skeleton Starlight” evening train rides Saturdays in October as detailed here.
Paws for Thought Trivia Night is an event dedicated to supporting Tuolumne Spay and Neuter. The event will be held at the Willow Springs Clubhouse Thursday night, doors open at 5:15 pm and the trivia starts at 6:00pm. A ticket includes charcuterie cups, there will be a silent auction and no-host bar. Event organizers promise an exciting and fun-filled evening to challenge your knowledge, test your wits, and bring together a community of animal lovers for a great cause as detailed here.
Friday the Black Irish Band will be celebrating their 35th Anniversary with a special reunion concert at the Sonora High School Auditorium. The special night includes a tribute to the late Richard Restivo, tickets are $10 at the door and the concert starts at 7 pm.
Independence Hall at Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp will host the Quilters 46th Annual Quilt Faire Friday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00pm. Meet artist and featured quilter, Lynn Wilder, shop the vendor booths, see the scholarship quilt, boutique, and all the quilts for sale.
The Sonora Lions Club 11th Annual Glenn Bass Cross Country Run will be held Saturday at the Sonora High School Wildcat Ranch. It features a 1-mile run/walk and a 5K cross-country run. Online registration and more details are here.
Cover’s Apple Ranch will hold its 2nd annual fall festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the ranch at 19211 Cherokee Rd. in Tuolumne. There will be a pumpkin patch, hay rides, hay maze, contests, fresh-pressed apple cider, train rides, a bounce house and plenty of food. For more information
Saturday the Farms of Tuolumne County are holding their Pumpkin & Zucchini Weigh-In in conjunction with Indigeny Reserve’s Fall Festival. The one day weigh-in event is before 11:30 am the event is free but there is a fee per car for parking as detailed here.
Saturday the Sonora Volunteer Fire Museum is hosting a Parking Lot Fundraiser. Items for sale include donated antiques, collectibles and good usable items. Funds and donations keep the museum open as detailed here.
Saturday afternoon the Aronos Research Club is hosting a Fall Harvest Tea, followed by a Barn Dance in the evening.
Murphys Business Association is excited about The Murphys Gathering, which will take place on Saturday from 11 am – 5 pm. Show up in your best witchy, wizardly, whimsical, and magical garb to enjoy the tasting rooms, restaurants, and shops with entertainment, activities, and guest vendors. There will be a Witches & Wizards Ball, a Monster Mash, magician and juggler performances on Main Street, decorations for your hat and broom, face painting, ghost stories and more as detailed here.
Murphys Creek Theatre is performing “A Sign You Were Alive” at 7:30 pm on Saturday at Murphys Creek Theatre. Performances run through Nov. 3rd on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm, matinees on Sunday at 2 pm.
Join Fourth Wall Entertainment for “East of Oz” the new twist on the old tale is what might have happened if Dorothy’s house had landed on the Wicked Witch of the West instead of East. The dystopian version of Oz features familiar characters who tangle with the Wicked Witch of the East in this jukebox musical. Performances run through Nov. 17 on Friday and Saturday nights at 7pm, matinees on Sunday at 2 pm.
Sierra Repertory Theatre is performing Into the Woods at the East Sonora location. The musical follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. Although everyone’s wish is granted, the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. The last Standard Farmers Market is this Friday. The Farmers Market at Murphys Community Park is open Sunday until October 27.
Sunday from 2pm to 5pm Celebrate the arts at the 4th Annual CAST Fall Festival featuring the Columbia Big Band, Connections Visual and Performing Arts Academy and Summerville High School performers. Entrance is free, all ages are welcome to enjoy dancing, face-painting, balloons, art exhibits, raffle tickets and more at the Armory in downtown Sonora.
Sunday the Humane Society of Tuolumne County will present Arts and Whines a fundraising event from 3 to 5 pm with wines paired with a four-course meal. There will also be a silent auction and a wine pull raffle.
On Sunday at 3 pm, join the Salon Concert with Jason Jeffrey as part of the Sonora Bach Festival. The event will take place inside of a private home near Sonora. Details are here.
