Cold Start For The New Week

Sponsored by:

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for the Mother Lode and the entire Central Valley, from 10 PM tonight until 10 AM Tuesday.

Low temperatures will range between thirty to thirty-six degrees.

Frost is possible tomorrow morning at elevations below 2,000 feet.

These cold temperatures could be hazardous to pets, plants, and those without adequate heating. Frost and freeze conditions could impact and kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from cold and those sensitive to cold weather impacts.

Additionally, a Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for Yosemite National Park and the western slope of the northern Sierra Nevada, from 10 PM tonight until 10 AM Tuesday.

Very cold temperatures of two to fifteen degrees are forecast at elevations above 6,000 feet. Cold wind chills may be as low as five below zero.

Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if precaution is not taken and unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Finally, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the western slope of the northern Sierra Nevada from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday evening.

Heavy snow is likely.

The snow levels will range from 3,000 to 4,000 feet through Wednesday morning, before rising to 4,500 to 5,500 feet by Wednesday afternoon.

Total snow accumulations above 3,500 feet will range from four to eight inches. Eight inches to two feet of snow accumulation is likely above 4,500 feet. The higher you go, the more the snow.

Winds could gust as high as fifty mph. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Slick travel conditions are expected, with snow covered roads and chain controls.
