Bay Area Man Arrested For DUI After Highway 108 Head-on Crash
Sonora, CA — The CHP reports that a 31-year-old man from San Leandro was cited for DUI after his Ford Focus drifted into an opposing traffic lane of Highway 108 and hit an oncoming truck.
Christian Vargas-Zermeno was driving the Focus westbound when he hit the eastbound Toyota Tundra driven by 32-year-old Andrew Wilson of Soulsbyville. The Tundra overturned and collided with an oncoming GMC Sierra driven by a 17-year-old male from Sonora. There were only minor injuries reported as a result of the crash.
Vargas-Zermeno was later cited for DUI as his level of intoxication contributed to the crash, according to the CHP. The crash occurred at 8:10pm on Saturday evening and Highway 108 was closed for approximately two hours for cleanup.
