Sonora’s DUI Arrests Up By 50 Percent
Sonora, CA — Sonora Police Department released its 2012 end of the year crime statistics and the Chief says some were startling. The statistics showed a 50 percent jump in DUI and drug arrests in 2012 over 2011. Also, the number of accidents caused by DUI drivers went up by nearly half.
Chief Mark Stinson says, “The numbers are disturbing, but the statistics help us strategize with our personnel to target the trouble spot. We’ll get more officers into specialized training for spotting the impaired drivers and those under the influence of narcotics. We are kind of limited on staffing, but we’ll still go ahead and try to get everyone trained the best we can to look for these things and hopefully we’ll send the message; it will not be tolerated in the city of Sonora.”
There are some bright spots general thefts, burglaries, domestic violence cases and total traffic collisions dropped.
